been watching the water temps go up last couple days.got to the lake yesterday morn an my rear depthfinder read 47.5 degrees..(its just below the surface)got to my first spot an dropped the trollin motor an got a reading of 46 but that was 18 inches or so deep(ive got a really long shaft motor fer ky lake) right away i started catching a few vertically jigging right off the bottom in 6 ft of water on the west side of the lake.started noticing every once in a while as it got later in the mornin id have one hit about a ft or so down an run sideways real fast.i know the lake real well an hadnt even been payin attention to the depthfinder,looked down at it an it read 48.7!!!!!!!.thru the years ive found that 48 degrees is the magic temp for activity level/presentation...often 48 degrees an warmer a horizontal presentations better so i switched to casting a jig an started catching more agressive fish but they were a lil smaller.only 8 - 10 inches.the east side of the lake was gittin the sun now so i ran over there an boy was i glad i made the move!there were crappie all over that entire section of shoreline,and on some of the more prominant pieces of structure the were schooled up like you wouldnt believe.averaged 20 plus off each one of those structures,an that was on the first pass thru lol.easily caught over 200 crappie thru the day an kept my limit.average size was right at 11 1/2 to 12 inches and i lost a pig when the hook pulled as i was tryin ta lip it that i hate ta say how big it was but it had me shakin afterwards....(note to self...take small net when crappie fishing ,not the cat net lol.) heres a pic right fore i cleaned em
