Im not sure what the ice is like...i didnt even bother to go look this weekend. I would say browns is done for sure since last weekend it was getting bad, and i would say spring lake would be a no go too. and in my experiences rock creek has the least ice around here year round so my guess would be not there either. i gave up on the ice fishing for the year i think. there is pry ice on all the backwaters still but i dont think it would be safe, couple more weeks and maybe it will all be open. im chasin the walleyes now and today i finally got my first, an nice fat 18 1/2in" at the oregon dam.

There is one spot that takes a boat to get to it thats upriver from savanna a few miles. It always holds ice for at least two weeks more than anywhere else and you can fill your bucket full of crappies the last bit of ice. Its up by the army depot just above where the apple river comes into the mississippi. i dont think im gonna be getting up there this year though...got a few things to fix on the boat first.

Well rigth now if your lookin to fish the backwaters of the mississippi im thinking your chances are better to do it through the ice than from a boat but i know the ice isnt good enough so you should beable to get a boat in there in a couple weeks im thinking. Im ready to do some open water panfishing too!!

The Keithsburg,IL game refuge is free of ice. This place actually has an oficial name but the government changes it from time to time. I was born in Keithsburg and I have known it as the Keithsburg Bottoms all my life.
I and my grandson Brandon took the canoe down there during the week and the water is high and still comming in both ends. We were only there for a short time and done a little fishing, but didn't catch anything but a cast net in the prop off the end of the ramp. That gained me 4 lbs. of good lead.lol Mike
