Coincidence of all coincidences...all of this Carp talk on the board yesterday. Got my Field & Stream magazine in the mail, this month's issue has a BIG article about fishing for Carp. It's funny, they compare Carp to Soccer - the rest of the world loves it, but we don't "get it" in the USA. Probably worth a read if you're by a newsstand.
Thanks a bunch for sharing M and J.

So the folks here in the U.S. don't get it when it comes to carp fishing?
Actually I think this is more of a non issue than the issue some are trying to make it.
We still have a broad range of fish species to target here in the U.S.. The good fishing is not, for the most part, limited to the "king's" waters.
Much (not all) of the water our fish swim in is still fit to eat fish from.
Carp is also not native to this area.
Japan citizens think that the bluegill is a disgusting fish that should be removed from the country.
What do I think all this means??? Absolutely nothing.lol
People are going to fish for what they want to. If less people fish for carp, so what?? The fishing rags will just have to wait till folks find out carp are fun to catch to get in on the speciality gear advertising bucks they are trying to develop . Mike

I think some people are afraid to fish for carp because of the bad image carp have gotten in this country. I have been told "You fish for them "trash fish"
sure I chose to use Euro type gear, But others don't need to do so. Can you get any more low tech than a kid's fishing pole like Ray posted, And his fly rod story. I fish for them because they are fun to catch, Will I fish for other fish you bet. I thank it's just sad that some people won't fish for carp because of the image they think it gives them.
