Just wondering if any of you had tried the new cajun red line and if so, what do you think of it ?
I am going to try it on my new rod and reel for catfishing and I'm using 17lb test. I would just like to hear about the pros and cons on this new fishing line.

i stopped in 1 of my favorite bait shops just to BS a while and took a look
at the cajun red and he told me you wont like that line it is to brittle
and will make a bird nest backlash real easy,i read the lable on the pkg
and it was saying how the red color cant be seen under water, that makes
me wonder if it cant be seen WHY do they still make red color baits????

That's a good point Kirk. I've often wondered that myself. As for the line, that's what i am using for my catfish rigs. So far so good. I wanted to get away from that ridiculous braided line. I have'nt been using it long enough for a good report yet, but will keep using it. Got me 3rd place at the last tourney.

hush puppy, are you using bait casting reels or spinning reels?as for the
braided line i have tried power pro,and the new stren braided line, the
stren seemed to be the best of the 2,and im still not sold on it,right now
im back to the stren heavy cover mono, when it comes to light tackle,
it is hard to beat the stren xtra strength, small dia. easy to make long
casts.my advice is to use what has preformed the best for you in the
past.Got to go,will be at TURKEY CREEK by 6:30 today.

Kirk, I agree about the stren braid. It is the lesser of two evils. But that still makes it evil. As far as my gear goes I have 3 spinning reels (salt water) and 7 baitcasters. And most of them are filled with some kind of stren. I have alot of confidence in stren and will continue to use it untill it lets me down. I am trying the new cajun line for my med. catfish rod.

hush puppy
let me know how it preforms for you,i have tried many brands, and always
go back to stren.
TURKEY CREEK today we had 4 in excess of 3lb each in the first 2 hours,
then LOCK JAW set in,fishing over by those old dead trees on the left
after you leave the idle zone,sand/mud bottom, and the fish were at the
base of the trees, bait purple yum shrimp.:D

I did tests on red cajun and a few other mono lines. Red cajun held up the best as far as holding knots and at what poundage of pull it would break at. I was checking 30# test and it was taking close to 40# of pull for it to break. As far as the red color, I think it's just a selling gimmic.

I mostly use braided line for my catfish rigs. If you are fishing anywhere where power pro can rub on rocks, don't use it. There are a lot better brands of braided line out there than power pro. I have had the best luck with Berkley Gorilla braided line but that is just me. Be sure and run your own tests before you depend on any line.

red doesnt disapear in water its just the color that fades the quickest. its the shortest wavelength. red turns brown then gray underwater as light penetration goes away.thats why its used in crayfish patterns. i use berkley big game for cats. right now im trying yozuri hybrid line its mono with a florocarbon coating. so far its great. i use 100% florocarbon for flippin and pitchin for bass and its definately got less stretch ands more sensitive than mono. ive also seen a difference fishing clear water.

I spooled 2 of my baitcasters with Cajun Red 20# test last week. The 1st time out it seemed a little springy but after that it done real well, so far I'm real satisfied with it. I didn't have any problems with backlash at all. :)

I sure appreciate the info for the new cajun line. I have it spooled on my new reel and will be trying it out for the first time at lake Texoma for catfishing. I've heard alot of good reports on it.I have it spooled on my baitcasting reel and if it works well on it, then I will try it on my wifes spinning reel.
Thanks everyone.

Since I have not made a post before, I will jump in this one. I agree with Catbird and gofish on Cajun Red. I fish mostly rivers and large creeks and I have a ABU with 17 # braid stren. My medium cat rod has a penn 309 with Cajun Red 30 # on it. It does appear sort of gray or brown in the water and holds up fine for me. I have used it since last year.

Fatcat, your right about the springyness of it at first. It seems to get better as you use it.

capt.kirk it is nice of you to be so active here. I still have to go to work although I am past 66 years old. I plan to go fishing this weekend. I bought a Penn 60 at a flea market and now have it clean and with smoothie drag washers and will spool it up with 30 # line for a test run. I thought about Cajun red but I am not sure what I will put on it yet. I intend to give it a fair shake against my 309 which has the red cajun on it.
I use a abu 5500st with "bearings" in it with a lighter line.
I will post again after I try the two penn's with 30 # red cajun and something else this week end.
Lets' go fishing....
