That is SERIOUSLY impressive
Have heard people talk about that kind of cast, but have never seen anyone come
close to that kind of distance before
That is pretty amazing

thanks for sharing Jim

Tim I have made 140 yards with the gear I had with me at the mighty muddy last year.

That is really something Jim
Would be like shooting it out of a gun to watch it fly those kinds of distances

Hey, guys, how's it going?

Jim, have you tried the sidecasting reels, such as the ones from Alvey of Australia, yet? I met a guy once that claimed he could cast 200 yards with one. I just said, "Yeah. Really?" politely, not believing it for an instant. But seeing them reach 125 yards in these videos with spinning equipment (something else I wouldn't have believed without seeing it), I can now see where he probably wasn't pulling my leg. I never got a look at his equipment, but he said he was also using a 12' rod that was made especially for the reel. Have you tried one of them? If so, did it cast farther than the spinning reels in this video? This guy said that because the spools were bigger around, and could throw larger loops, the cast went farther with a sidecaster than any other type of gear.

I've also heard that the lightest line you can use is 12 lb.-test for long distances, because of the strain on it. True or false?

One more question, then I'll stop bugging you: generating forces that great for the cast, do you use this long distance method strictly for lures? It seems to me that live bait would shred off the hook pulling that many "G"s.

Thanks for your time, and tight lines to you.

I haven't have had a Alvey in my hands yet, I believe the 200 yards, But they use saltwater rods and heaver sinkers to get that far.
Lite line, TRUE, The tournament long distance casters use the lightest line they can get away with.
I use cooked field corn and hard cooked dough balls we call boilies and tiger nuts for bait.
One could use my outfits foe lures, But most of us carp fisherman are content to set on the shore and take it easy.
