i was graced with the oppurtunity to test a couple prototype baitcasting reels from ACADIA SPORTS.recieved them a few days ago and spooled them both up with power pro braid to try out. fine looking reels of the round style with a lower central thumbbar.being prototypes theres nothing to tell me recommended line size but a good guess is 10 to 12 lb on the 1000 and up to 20 (plus?) on the 3000 with the 3000 having the baitclick feature.
going to start out bass fishing with them and plan on gitting to some "meaner" fishing as time goes on to really work them out lol. joe

ill git a pic up soon...aint had a chance to try em on bigger fish yet,jus seein what they were like so far...might jus be takin em to the river next sun. though :evilgrin0039:

ACADIA 1000.....this ones a very small round style baitcasting reel thats seems to me the optimum line would be 10 to 12 lb test.it has a magnetic anti backlash system, baitclick and a lower style thumb bar

acadia 3000.....same features as the 1000 but with a much wider spool, should handle 17lb test with no difficulties

i set both reels up with power pro line and mono backing on med. action 6ft rod for the 1000 and a 7ft med.hvy for the 3000..havent recieved the acadia rods yet so the first trip was with my high end graphite rods.

both reels were extremely easy to set up for casting against backlash.i set them extremely light for casting distance.(i prefer very long casts for cranks ect.)despite this i only had 3 backlashes even using braided line on brand new reels.didnt seem to need any" break in " time as i immediately was able to make very long casts even with lightwieght lures.never had this with any other similar reel so i was very suprised.

both reels are light for theyre size and comfortable to use even though tend to have problems with the lower style thumbars (broke my thumb twice lol) reel handles are just the perfect size and comfortable also.i typically cup the reel with my left hand on the retrieve and "feel" my line on the retrieve and even with the 3000 being so wide it was very easy to do so

there were a couple problems i ran into but i believe its because of the "newness " of the reels..first trip out. drags work beautifully what little they worked because of the smallish fish i caught on them but there seemed to be a small discrepancy between the setting of the drag and the pressure it took when it actually slipped on a fish.slipped a little quicker than it should have for the setting i chose.the second problem was with the 1000 on the graduation of the magnetic drag settings.only had to adjust it for throwing the light crank into the wind but the settings seemed to go from light to firm too quickly.i didnt realize the 1000 had a baitclick till today, didnt even think about a small real having one but the 3000s was very quiet and not to my liking.i firmly believe the first 2 problems are from the reels being new and unused and will work out with use.

i hope everybody understands these are PROTOTYPE reels and not production models and any issues, concerns or problems i encounter in using them will be worked out, changed or corrected by ACADIA before production time...in fact theyre allready addressing the bait click lol

next planned trip is next weekend...sat. for bass and sunday on the river.plan on starting small for channels on the 3000 and might switch it to a heavier rod for a go at a big blue.the 1000 will be used for cranks again even in the river but never know what will hit there:icon_biggrin:

Great report Joe, some very interesting reading, and very instructive

Since WIF has been asked by Acadia to ask members to do proto-type testing when they are ready to come out with new gear, I hope everyone is following along as you and the other guys testing the rods are using them and putting up information

Thanks !
Tim

Those are nice looking reels and will definitely be interested in hearing how they perform as I like using those types of reels for fishing crankbaits with...:party0045:

Well Peg, we haven't discussed anything about selling Acadia products in our store as Lee, the owner is strictly mail order direct from his warehouse in Texas. This is how he keeps his prices down so low for his high quality merchandise with no middle men and or salesmen.

I'm sure some folks think we get our rods and reels free from Acadia but I assure you that I pay exactly what you do and I have personally purchased at least a dozen rods and reels and have gave away several to friends to help the cause.

Lee donates some of his products to us monthly for our drawings which is more than generous and in return we do advertise and use his products which is only fair.

Those of you that know me personally know that I am a firm believer in you scratch my back and I will scratch yours. Schoe
