I've been thinking of visiting a friend of mine up North (near NJ). He doesn't fish, but I've been trying to talk him into finding a place nearby for me. If he does, I'm hoping to go out for musky.

I've never fished for them, but I hear that the best time to go out if between daybreak and about 2 hours after sunrise. Is that right?

Anyone have any luck catching these? Any tips?

Live2fish, we have a new member ,"muskytale" that owns a resort in Wisconsin right in the middle of the best Muskey fishing in the world. I bet if you sent him a PM he would help you out.

Also there is a lake in Ky. called Green River Reservoir that I caught my first Hybrid Musky at. The lake is full of Muskies, Walleyes, Bass, Bluegills, Catfish, and Crappies. Check it out, as it would make a nice trip for you from Georgia. Schoe

this time of year it all depends on water temp.but it does tend to be better early and late in the day.i do real well on smaller baits early in the year.

Schoe, thanks for the input. I'll see about pming muskytale. And the lake in KY sounds good. I have family up near the KY/TN border. I might have to visit soon. =)

Dang. Hit the post button too soon. Thanks to you too Gofish. I've been reading a bit about tips and such on catching them. Best baits, time of day, etc. The only thing to reading info garb is that it's not always fact or experience but sometimes just theories.

So I appreciate all the input I'm getting here.

Schoe there are Monster Musky down by Victoria, and over by Kewanee IL.

From what I've heard from Musky anglers, your best times are early in the morning, or right before dark. Also, pray for a cloudy day. Like most big fish, if they see you, you are done.

Thanks, Gofish. I do too!

Rainman4u2, thanks for the advice. I'll certainly hope for cloudy skys. How funny on a vacation... ;-) But I get it. Most of the time the fish around here don't care if they "see" you or not, they're starved for live bait.

one little secret to keep in mind.if you can find a large lure in the bass fishing catagory it will be loads cheaper than a "musky" bait. some swimbaits are fairly cheap and are still large enough to tempt them. rapala has a 7 inch minnow. best day i ever had was 13 between 27 and 50 inches on a 1 oz. rattletrap. dont spend a fortune unless you have to. my wife will tell you i need to shut up though. i do side jobs just so i can buy fishing stuff!lol. seriously though i just ordered some bladebaits. the 1 oz. is $5 but the 2,3,and4 oz. are considered big game and cost 3 times as much.ordered them anyway. just had to have them.lol.

Ive caught musky all day- 3pm in clear skies with blazing sun was my biggest... morning in the rain was the most.

Theyre a fun fish to catch, but a tough one to pinpoint the "how-to" about.

I got em in small 300 acre shallow lakes in mid michigan, Georgian Bay in Ontario, and Lake St Clair in southeast MI..... I hate to be so vague, but really- thts the way it has been for me!

well they are the known to be the fish of 10,ooo casts so be prepaired for a long day. Joes right though you can catch them anytime of day but sun up and sun down is are great times. If the water temp is gonna be above 60 deg deffinetly go small, Usually bass fisherman are the guys hookin skis in the summer on cranks and spinnerbaits. good luck homes.
