I will check with the Ike's in Geneseo Ill. and see what it takes to hold a party at their facility. They have a nice club house in case of bad weather and a great camping area at a reasonable price.
Let's have some input and we will go from there. Schoe

geez mark you ask alot of questions,lol.. I dont think theres showers there schoe will have to check on that, its at the Izzak walton park just outside geneseo, nice little spot, your 14ft would def be more than enuff for the area, I got a canoe im ganna check into bringin..theres is a campground just on the other side of the canal too they prob have more for electrc and a shower!!

OK, I will do my best to answer all the questions to the best of my knowledge.
I do know there at the Ike's theres no shower house but they have rest rooms, elect. hook ups and primitive camping. I think, now don't hold me to this but I think the fees are $16 for RV hookup and $8 for primitive and I will check on this for sure and post. Also I will check on the Campground on the other side for facilities and fees.
The pool in front of the Ike's you can have any size motor from the highway bridge at the Ike's to the next locks East. But west of the bridge it is electric motor only which is nice because there is where we do most of our fishing.
Being somewhat brain dead I was out there today with Ray Nees Aeolus, (Goofy), and Jordan, my little buddy and forgot to check on rates but will do this for both places before this coming weekend.
I just called the house of one of the officers of the Ike's who was out for his evening walk and his wife will have him call me tonight when he returns so I will post the rates.
By the way, between the three of us we caught 80 nice Bluegills just working the shore line and weed pockets. Ray and Jordan also caught some nice Bass with Ray catching a nice 16" one.
Here's a few photos of today.
Sorry I got interrupted, Schoe

ok now ya gotta stop teasing.....no pics lol i am on vacation next week and have yet to get any gills this year. maybe if your not busy next week we could swap a gill trip for a flathead trip on the sinissippi pool if and when the river opens up? now mind you i am no pro but do know how n where to fish flatheads on the rock from dixon to lyndon.

Dipper it's on. I would love to take you and show you the Canal Gill fishing. I honestly hadn't fished the Canal much for Gills till Illgiller showed me the error of my ways.
Food for thought. I am kicking the idea of going to Wis. next week for a couple of days in the Spooner - Hayward area. I have several old friends up there and a great place to stay.
I know Goofy wants to go so let me know if you would possibly be interested. Mainly Bluegill fishing with some Bass now and then and also the possibility of a Northern Pike.

Matt, actually it's not too far. You go to Colona and get onto Billy Wolf Rd. and take it to Rt. 82 and turn Right and its up there less than two miles. I hope you can make it. It's not more than 25 miles from Moline
There's easy access for fishing from the bank and there will be boats and Float Tubes also to try out. I may have my Canoe back by then as I am having it sand blasted and painted. Schoe

Hey thanks for the info. I have to go out there myself and look things over. It may be the place to stay. There is no boat launching on that side so the boats have to be put in at the Ike's which isn't a problem.
I will run out there in the AM and check things out.
All kidding aside those ferocious Gnats are scared to death of Vanilla and will leave you alone if applied to head, neck and arms.
Goofy and me tried this the last time we were out there and it worked.
What would work good is a small Windex spray bottle to apply the Vanilla. Schoe

OK, contacted the right man this morning and the cost for Campers W/Elect. is $12.00 and tent camping is $6:00 per night on a first come first serve basis.
Myself I will go out Fri. AM and get set up with the Camper and hope some others do the same.
The Clubhouse rents for $80.00 a day and $50.00 for a half day which is very reasonable. However, since we just need a place for our fish fry Sat. afternoon they rent their enclosed pavilion for $20.00 for four hrs.
So I went ahead and booked that for the afternoon beginning at 3:00 PM for our fish fry. WIF will take care of the cost of the pavilion and also furnish the plates, utensils, napkins, potato salad, and baked beans. Everyone should bring something to pass and a desert.
Heck there may be a surprise road kill of some kind for the non fish eaters.
Illinoisgiller and I did rather well on Bluegills down at Ky. Lake this spring so there will be plenty of Bluegill fillets for the meal just in case their aren't many caught that day.
How about a short pan fish tournament that morning say a 10 fish limit per person? Those could also be used for the meal. Input please.
We have had offers for fish frying chefs and I sure appreciate that. I will bring 4 Gal. of oil for the cookers.
I would like a rough idea of how many will attend so we can plan the food accordingly so post how many will be with you that day and I will add to the list. Please include what you will bring for the table and I will add you to the list.
I will delete the posts and add to the list.
Please note, by all means don't hesitate to invite non members and or friends to this event so they might learn what we are all about.
Thanks, Schoe

The Campground across the Canal from the Ike's does have better camping facilities. When Dipper explained that he was staying there I had to go check it out and have Site # 54 toward the front reserved for the 11th and 12th.
They have very nice shower and Bathroom facilities.
However our Derby and Fish Fry will still be held at the Ike's.

Any one ever try Irish Spring soap? Use the regular, not the fancy scented stuff. I use it, and rarely if ever get bit. The wife uses her Ivory, and 1/2 a can of OFF!!! spray every time we go out and drown worms, and has numerous bites when we get home.

Looks like 10:00 AM our Derby will start and run 3 hours till 1:00 PM.
No entry fees but a sign up is necessary that AM.
A limit of 10 Bluegills per person can be turned in. The combined weight of the 10 fish is what counts.
There will be two divisions--
12 years old and under and 13 yrs old on up.
Fishing from Boats or from the bank will be allowed.
There is ample bank fishing for Bluegills especially across the Canal from the Ike's along the Bike Path.
Fish that are caught will be used for fish fry along with some Bluegills Giller and myself caught at Ky. Lake this spring.
PM any questions.

candy n i got home from geneseo camp ground yeasterday afternoon i fished fri and sat morn about 3 hrs each day. i kept 14 fri morn and 26 sat morn could have kept more just did not need to i probly caught better than 150 gills altogether. one big suggestion long rods as the moss is thick and heavy. the gills r very boat shy but don't seen to mind the bobbers as a matter of fact the splash seemed to draw them outta the weeds to investagate. was a great camp ground friendly, quite and clean.candy n i will be on site 53 next weekend. reseveration might be a good idea again the phone number is (308)-944-6465. they r haveing a r.v. club in this weekend also. is going to be a ruff week at work this week in anticaption of this comeing weekend

I had a great time meeting everyone. Food was good, but the company was fantastic. we had a great fire after everyone left and Duanne and Kenny stayed with us until real late and we never even got told to be quiet, but of course Jason and Chris's neighbors were not home. We laughed so hard. And Kenny and Dipper never stopped talking the rest of us couldn't get word in edge wise. Thanks again to all

What a neat weekend and I would like to thank all those that participated and made this another successful WIF event.
We had some great fishermen in the two categories that ended up with a nice bucket of Gills to add to the Fish Fry.
In the 12 and under group
1st Place---Jordan
2nd Place---Al
3rd Place---JJ
4th Place---Conner
13 on up group
1st Place---Todd
2nd Place---Dipper
3rd Place---Heath
Someone has still photos of the winners and I will post them as soon as I get them.
We have lots of Video footage that is being edited that will be shared when finished. I have a few stills of the cooks and dinner being enjoyed by some.
I sincerely thank everyone for their help and involvement this past weekend as I wasn't much help being down in the back. Honestly if it wasn't for Goofy and some others I probably wouldn't have been able to get through Sat.
Although Giller broke his ankle Sat. (while fishing) he braved the pain to make it out Sat. where everyone was glad to see him.
Tim and family drove the most miles to attend,(from Indianola, Ia.) near Des Moines.
There were several new faces which is always neat so we can put names and faces together in person.
Another Clinton Lake event was mentioned for this fall so lets think about that or if anyone has any other suggestions for another time and place please don't hesitate to post about it.
Here's a few photos with more to follow. Schoe

What a great time. Met a lot of seriously interesting people. Fishing seems to be a great magnet for getting people to enjoy themselves. Thanks Shoe and the whereifish.com family for putting together a nice weekend. Mike was sure holding up good even though the pain in his broken ankle had to be terrible. Mike, sorry we won't get that fishing trip this time but, as soon as you get your wheels back under you we will plan something.
My dad and I had a great time fishing on Sat. Connor and his other grandpa had fun too, but they are sorry they didn't stay closer to us since we found the fish.
I only wish we could have spent more time getting to know you guys afterword. It looks like we missed out on some good times and some good grub too! Gonna have to camp next year I guess.

That Clinton Lake outing would be an easy drive for me because at that time I will be in Normal. That sounds great!

Yes Todd there was lots of good fun and good grub. It is too bad you all had other obligations Sat. afternoon.
However thanks for attending the Derby.
There will be more like weekends this year and I am seriously thinking of doing a lot more of this type of outings rather than busting our hind ends organizing public tournaments.

After several comments about Clinton Lake it is probably a good time to start discussions for a date.
Myself I would prefer sometime after Sept. 15th as it should be a bit cooler but I am open to majority decisions. Schoe

Sounds like a good time was had by all that made it, not that I would expect anything less. Would have loved to been there but with these all so cheap gas prices it was just a tid bit out of my roaming distance.

Bizzy-bizzy-bizzy!!! Most happy I was able to take the time and see some old friends and meet the new ones. Who new I would be walking into a hospital zone. To see the smiles on all four boys faces after the Derby was well worth the trip. We at WIF have a ball at these things don't we? My three favorite things were there! FOOD-FISHING-FELLOWSHIP and did I mention FOOD? Thanks everyone for making this such a success.
Now I look forward to the Muddy in September. As for Clinton Lake (at Bloomington), I would suggest Oct. 10-11-12. That puts it about a month after the Muddy and at the beginning of cooler weather but before they close the lake off for boat traffic for the winter(someone should check that date). Even the week after that would be great too. Can't plan too soon!!!
Again thanks to Schoe for the wonderful time.
