View Full Version : My new jig

I slipped out to a different section of the canal to try out a new jig I have been trying. It is the "ant" jig that DaveIN posted some time ago. Don,rebg38 from OK. has been patiently teaching me how to make them. It is a lengthy process to produce this version of them, and is probably why they are not availabe for sale.
This is the first time I have fished one with the legs left long. These were designed to be tipped with red worms for red ear. The bluegill and green sunfish liked them also.:icon_razz:
The canal pool I was in is known for pretty small gills and that is why I chose it. I'm figuring if a small one don't back off from them then a big one sure won't.:icon_cool::icon_cool:
I didn't keep any fish, Just enjoyed the day. I did take a few pictures of the small fish and hope the picture of the spider tying up the dragon fly is clear enough to see. A fly beat me to a plump white mullberry. (He looked mean.)lol It has been a long time since I enjoyed a few handfulls of white mullberrys ,and first time I've picked them from a float tube.:icon_cool: :icon_cool::icon_cool: Mike

Looks like a good opportunity to give posting on the site a try
Mike thanks for the test, as I have mentioned to you before, I have never actually decided just how long I wanted to leave the legs. Also noticed you were trying various colors of the jig. Appears that those northern fish like the green chart/black combo also.
And yeal, the pic of the spider and D. flag came out good

It happens to be very rewarding for me to make and use baits that I have made myself.
It should be noted though that as far as cost is concerned, it is much more cost effective to buy them.:confused0024::confused0024:
If I bought most of the jigs and flies I use it would be more reasonable, in fact MUCH more reasonable.lol
This just happens to be something I enjoy.:icon_cool::icon_cool:
It sould also be noted that I am tipping with red worms on this last jig. Any purist fly-jig tier would quickly note that I am simply bait fishing.lol
I enjoy what I do and have no plans to change direction till I have to.:icon_cool: Mike

DaveIN, Those few jigs I sent in appreciation of your information on the ant jig were some I tied. They are just crudely similar to Keith's quality work. :confused0024: Mike
