After I received my test rod in the mail I was a little disappointed. With the rating of Medium Heavy, I was expecting something with a little more bulk to it. It was more the type of rod that I would choose for bait fishing but decided to give it a try. I definitely liked the grey appearance because I don’t really go in for flashy rods. The reel seat and handle were nice though I had the same problem with the butt that the other testers had. My only problem with the rod in general was the ceramic inserts in the eyelets. I have had problems with them on other rods and now stay away with them. I had no problems with the test rod eyelets and they all seem to be securely fastened.
Even though it was a bait casting rod all of my bait casters were a little oversized to match up to the rod so I mounted a open face reel for the testing. I definitely didn’t want to hook a big blue or a flathead on the rod some I tested it last weekend at Dillon Lake. I was fishing with cut shad for channel cats. Not 5 minutes after casting the rod out I got a hit. It felt like a small 5# channel. After about 30 seconds of checking the rod action (that performed well by the way) I decided to quit playing and horse it on in. That was definitely a mistake for the rod busted in half and I lost the fish. I was kind of surprised that the rod wasn’t splintered and it was a really clean break like it had been cut with a knife. Sorry I didn’t get to run any more tests on the rod. I would like to thank Lee for including me in the testing. This in no way looks bad for Acadia for I have used some of their other rods and they all performed flawlessly. Actually, I used a rod that Schoe had up in Alaska and landed a 20# King Salmon which was my first and personal best.
