The circle of my Daughters Life…….

1) Remember when she was born and she was your little princess: I even brought her first fishing pole and tackle box to the hospital. The nurses looked at me kind of funny?
2) Remember when she was excited about camping: From when she was a baby till she was a teenager she loved camping and fishing. She was not afraid of anything, picking snakes, putting her own worm on her hook, just getting plain ole fashioned dirty,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
3) Remember when she turned a teenager and started to know boys: All of a sudden going camping, fishing, just getting plain dirty was a bad thing. She did not want to do things anymore. I have lost your little anything goes, lets get dirty partner to a Princess in the literal sense of the word.
4) Remember when she met this handsome dude in college: Who just so happened to hunt, fish and camp and just get plain ole dirty and she thought these activities were the greatest thing since peanut butter again……..
5) Now she is 30 years old: Married to the outdoorsman and has four kids, your Grandchildren, who are being taught how to be true outdoors persons with a little help from you. You get together quite often, but not as much as you would like. They are making arrangements to move back near you, just because they want to. Your Daughter has called you four sometimes five times a week just because she wants to. She tells of their latest adventure then she turns the conservation around to Remember Dad When……………

Yes my darling Princess I do remember when, and more important, I am so glad you do to………………….

Mornin' Dave;

I got a couple sorry ol' boys, but me an' th' ladyrum always wanted a daughter, an' grandchildren. No grandchildren yet, but still hopin'.

I enjoyed your account of raisin' yorn. They's a special bond between a father and his daughter. It's th' purest form of trust and love they is. Think about it pard... you've obviously earned that trust and thereby passed th' test. There's many a test to manhood... none of 'em come close to matchin' what you have accomplished. Tip O' th' hat Dave, I know you cain't bounce 'er on your knee no more... but pat 'er on the head an' tell er how proud you are to have 'er around.

Good one Soupy! A classmate sent me that on the eve of our 40th reunion and I enjoy it every time I read it.

One thing I really enjoy about my daughters is they (now in their 30's) will climb up in dads lap every once in a while for a big hug. Now that is a treat!!!

Never read that poem Soupy, but it reminds me a lot of one I wrote a few years back for a poetry site I used to frequent. The charge was a poem of the 60's and would have to have the title of a popular song of the era. I chose.....

Yesterday

Sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll
Legacy? or freedoms toll?
Monterey to grassy knoll
Was yesterday's innocence stole?

Yet Camelot was barely born
When from it's breast, Jack was torn
On Caison was Old Glory worn
As Jackie, John and Caroline mourn

Lamb and lion join in hell
On thirty eigth parallel
In shame we watched as Mei Li fell
Who could hide their woeful knell

Then children came in love and peace
Thought their music soothed the beast
At Kent State was lost the lease
Free "free love" forever ceased

Now came demons in the dark
And take the children 'fore their mark
Poison chased them from the ark
In death they taste it, gray and stark

Janis, Jimmi, James and Jim
Elvis light too would dim
And Marilyn as sure as him
And legions more with fates as grim

But yet a hope can remain
In lyric, verse or kept refrain
Hearts once young can heal the pain
And yesterday can come again.

Thanks Soupy... this verse is a little vague... it is in reference to the Rev. Jim Jones and the poisoned cool aid he bullied all those people (mostly children) into drinking.

Now came demons in the dark
And take the children 'fore their mark
Poison chased them from the ark
In death they taste it, gray and stark
