Mohawks profile picture is up so do yourself a fovor and take a gander at it. Maybe we can get him to tell us the story behind that big guy. I would like to know if any of our members can top this one. It's a Big Eye Tuna he caught off New Hampshire a few years ago. I put it in the Gallery so you can enlarge it by clicking on it. Schoe

Okay, so I know there's a story behind THAT one. I want to know where, how and who all helped get that one to shore! LOL!
Nice pic, Mohawk. What did you do with all the meat? Still got plenty in the freezer? ;-)

It was caught with 300 pound monofilament line with a large circle hook ordered from a fish net company in Jonesville, Louisiana. The rod was a 7 foot very stiff rod. The reel was an Penn International 130 reel with a high and a low range. The fish was so strong we had to keep pouring water on the reel so it wouldn't burn up. We did this for 2 hours and 45 minutes but it felt like forever! There were 3 of us: the captain, first mate, and myself. We were harnessed in and we traded off when each person was exhausted. We harpooned it and brought it close to the boat when it was finally worn out. We made a noose around his tail and brought him up with double line block and tackle. It was all we could do to get him up. Another block and tackle was used on his head and as he was 13 to 14 feet long- we had trouble getting him onto the boat. It thrashed so badly we couldn't get close to him for fear he could break our legs. At that point we bled him and he was finally still. We got him into port and an automatic crane took him off, put him in a dolly, and dressed him. He was immediately processed at the fish market. The Japanese buyers approached us after taking a plug about the size of a nickel, wafered it, tasted it, and only offered $8,000. Believe it or not, we were very disappointed. The fish before us was smaller and sold for $13,000 because he did not fight so much. It must make them taste better when they haven't fought so much. Right now I am contacting the owner of the boat to see if Schoe and I can go out for a 300 pound plus fish. I will let you know if I am successful!

Biggest tuna I ever got was 80lbs in the summer of 67 off Daytona!
I would have had heart failure if I had gotten one that big!
Nice story!
