I am planning to buy my first <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:stockticker>GPS</st1:stockticker>. I have been comparison shopping for a while and found a few sites that seem to be doing a good job with pricing and customer service. I am still confused and undecided as to what to buy with all the various options. The folks at getfeetwet.com (quite helpful) have suggested the Lowrance H20 or thier 3010c Bundle. I also saw that they had a factory refurbished Garmin 2006 and GMR unit for half the price. Any thoughts on these units? I like the price of the 2006 factory refurbished but I am not sure what I am giving up? Garmin gives 1 yr warranty on the refurb and looks like getfeetwet adds a 2nd yr to that. I was assured that they are as good as new. Has anybody purchased a Garmin Refurb?

Your best bet since this is your first one is to locate a dealer that has
models on display for hands on use,you may have to drive a little but
it will be worth your time, for when you leave with your purchase you will
schooled on it,and if you have a problem you have a real person to talk
to or complain to,thats a lot better than internet shopping and getting
recordings telling you to dial this number then when you get there get
told to dial another number then get put on hold.hands on training will
save you a lot of greif.:) AND WELCOME TO THE WIF FAMILY

Like Kirk says, give them a test drive. Once you make your decision, you may want to check out the prices on Ebay.

Thanks for all you feedback. I think I am close to making up my mind. I was thinking of getting from GPScity but the folks at getfeetwet.com was patients with me with some of my stupid questions. They were recommended by Garmin when I called them for some dealer information. I also heard some good things about that company from a Motorcycle forum. They have a free 2nd yr warranty offer that I like but I am not sure how I can take advantage of it if I need it on the second yr. Has anybody purchased from getfeetwet.com.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

First off,welcome aboard ScheizKopf.
I have the Garmin Quest portable and it is an excellent GPS except that it does'nt have a memory slot for downloading local area info. That would be a priority on my next purchase. With the available software out there, you can get a lot more info with a card for specific areas.

yes they were helpful and very interested in my needs. I even confirmed about them with garmin. and surely getfeetwet.com is on their list. I can never be more satisfied because they have thier own tech support. So i do not need to trough garmin and wait hours for a service rep. give em a shot. and ask about a friend recomendation. discount :)
