Ok i know this is a dumb question, but i always let the fish i caught back out in the lake, but when you start to clean the fish, is it still alive? or do u have to kill it some how?

sorry if the question is dumb and thanks for the help.

Hey, we all have to ask question's in order to learn.

Now, If I am understanding your question correctly then here is what I do, I just put my fish on ice and let them die by thereself before cleaning them. But you can also kill them yourself I guess and clean them that way.

No such thing as a silly question, have to ask to learn
I am with Zakk
When I catch fish I am going to keep for the table I put them on ice once I leave the lake and then clean them as soon as I get them home

You can clean them dead or alive. It is much easier when they are dead obviously, but it can be done either way. I think they taste better if they are freshly cleaned.

If I am cleaning any that are still alive a small Ball Peen hammer with a thump betwen the peepers makes them very doscile while cleaning Schoe

The fresher the better.

Which method is worse,a hammer or carefully filleting them alive, then
useing the carcess wiggiling under a bobber for TARPON BAIT,I have
found that i can fillet a big gill without killing him and use him for bait
i know that it sounds cruel but in this way you can have a fish fry,
and have bait also,100% recycleing.
