I, my son Bill, and his daughter Sarah took advantage of the narrow weather window after the rain yesterday . We put the float tubes in at Isaaks Walton ,and done some bluegill chasing.
I and Bill were still testing the 1/80 orange/ Black without paint on the head and Lady Sarah had a 1/80 pink head on a fly hook w/pink/lt. blue duck feathers.
This was Sarah's first time in a tube this year ,but she got around well in spite of the heavy vegitation. .
These paintless heads are working out quite well, but then we are tipping with wax worms also.
Every one caught a few .
I was somewhat supprised to find the mini bulls on the beds. These were new beds out a bit deeper ,so I suspect they have adapted from being harrassed a lot.
We didn't keep any as we have enough fillets for a bit.
We had a few of those yeller shiners pestering us, and Bill tried his hand at sight fishing a couple cats in the 10lb. range. They were up in the pads but wouldn't hit a jig/waxie like the deeper Iowa lake cats do.
Nice to get out between storms enough to retain a bit of sanity. ole giller

not to sound stupid, but with them float tubes do you just go where the current takes you or what?

Stupid questions are the ones that go unasked.

Float tube history in a small nutshell. To the best of my limited knowledge ,the original tubes with canvas liner in a tire tube were designed for the trout streams. Most were fished wading with the tube hanging at waste level. When one came to a deep pool, they could float in the tube till it got shallow enough to walk again.
These modern v front tubes are not recomended for fast water. I won't get on a river of any kind in mine. The small ammount of current in the canal is not an issue.
We wear flippers on our feet and can get around quite well. These things will turn on a dime, and are so comfortable to sit in, you could sleep in one if you wished. I have napped a couple times myself in a tube. lol ole giller

Rather than buy one you might not like, you could just PM me and make arrangments to take one of my Fish Cat 4s on an outing or two:icon_cool:. I don't have an extra hand pump though.
Most all the time I have an unused tube available. All I ask is that you take care of it ,and don't put it on the rivers.
Fast water in a tube is a good way to drown at a stick up in a hurry, and that might damage the tube:confused0024:. (I'm so caring) ole giller

The best float tube for the best price is the one you want at the price you think is best. I haven't been to Cabelas since yesterday and didn't notice the tubes. ole giller

These are a few of the reviews from the Cabelas site on the ODC 420 v front tube they sell.http://reviews.cabelas.com/8815/318109/reviews.htm
Opinions will differ. ole giller
