I and the wife are headed off too Chadron, Neb. to deliver a decorated tipi that I have sold. The buyer is paying the gas out and half back. :D We hope to get lost in southwest IA. for a bit and then work our way across southern IA. on the way home. Gills and crappie beware, we will be on the hunt!! lol
Is anyone else getting a few of these great eating scrappers?
Would always enjoy reading of your catches or at least the attempts. :p Mike

Thank you for the offer Soupy, but I wouldn't need another. The lady just sent message and problems came up and can't buy it just yet . It is a highly decorated lodge and high buck.;) Go to Linda Holly's site. You should be able to sell it there. She runs a tipi forum .Google tipi might find it.
I'm off to chase some cold front bluegill with the grandson. Mike

My grandson Jonathan called Fri. night and said he need to go fishing again.lol So Sat. we went up the canal to the eare where they have placed brushpiles near bank. He had tied up some jigs Fri. night and they were affective in getting us a nice batch of sizeable gills from this hard fished area. :D The conditions were all wrong with a cool front in place, but you just can't catch them if you're not there. Mike

The cats at Salt Fork Lake were not being cooperative this past weekend so I and 3 others decided to get some crappies for a fish fry. After a couple of attempts, I found them in tree tops down about 10' in 15' of water. We caught 55-60 in 3 hrs. Smaller size but cooked up well.

Kirk, the lake is in Ohio, about an hour east of Columbus. It is 3000 acres I think. It is pretty stretched out....more like a river.

Gofish, under floats just using a live minnow.

I have been fishing for bluegill a bit this so far this year. When I'm after bass or pike I usually have an ultralight in the boat just for the slow times. Catching a few 'gills, crappie or perch is enough to keep it fun. Plus hooking a bass or pike with the UL is a real blast! I have taken some bluegill home twice, the other days I released them. But there were some nice thick ones with big, orange throats on them. No big crappie yet, but a couple BIG perch, one 15" long and real fat. Bit a jointed Rapala.:D

I am looking for a place to fish crappies on the mississippi river near the quad cities. I do not have a boat and was wondering if there are any boat rental places there. Thanks JIM

Peg leg, I was told that those lures stink. But HEY, why base an opinion on anothers thoughts? I'l be waiting for the results of YOUR test. I do think you got the wrong bait though. That looks more like a crappy lure, not a crappie lure .lol
I'm leaving for a gill huntin trip today in upper Wisc. We might wish we had come to visit your area with the cold weather up here.
BULL Coppernose Gills in Florida!! How could it get any better???????? Mike

I just thought I would let you know that you and Schoe were a little early on the crappies. They are hitting around here at just about any lake you go to. Sorry ya missed out.
