Went out Saturday to fish at RICC

Started my pre-fishing trying to figure out where I am going to fish for the tourney on Sat. Went out with my younger brother.

We Fished from 2:30 until about 6:00pm and got 9 fish. 6 Crappie and 3 bluegill. I missed what was likely a bass when he ran me into some cover and snapped me off.

We concentrated on shallow areas (3 - 5 feet) we knew held fish in warmer weather and managed to find them and get a bit going. Waxies were what they wanted, the big break off was the only bite on a minnow and the 6 varieties of gulp products we tried only netted one bluegill.

The Crappie were all around 8-9 inches (have to be 9" or greater per our club creel limits) The gills were little guys mostly but had a pretty aggressive bite. The Crappie were hitting very light, but the gills would hammer the bait while jigging.

I have heard from a few people who are catching bigger crappie deeper. We still have over a foot of ice so things should be good for the contest Sat.

I think you guys already know that Ice fishing is my least favorite pastime, however, I will overlook that just to be with some great fellas and friends.

I was under the impression there was always someone there to accept applications. I believe the groundskeeper lives on property there and has the house just to the left when you pull in the main parking lot. Trouthunter can speak more clearly on this if I'm wrong.

I will be out there on Wednesday, but I'm going out in the morning. The way it looks now I'll be out there around 10AM, but I'll have to be off the ice by 3:30 or 4:00. Hopefully I'll run into a few of you out there. I can check my PM's on my phone so if you are coming out and want to see where I'm at, just PM me here with your number and I'll call you.

I will be able to sign up anyone who desires, but unfortunately I will not be able to make it until about 4:30 - 4:45. I have to drop my wife off somewhere by four so my plans got pushed back, and I need to stop and get fuel for my heater (it's cold out there!) You guys wanna meet at the clubhouse?

There is a caretaker (Troy). but he has a full time job and is usually not there until late afternoon, early evening. I spoke to him last night and it looks like he will be fishing this evening also. I will introduce him to you guys when we meet up.
