I was fortunate to be invited by Schoe for a venture to the Hayward area of Wisc. to reign terror on the local panfish population.;) Schoe has lots of friends in the area, and was sure a pleasure to meet some of them.
Day one found the bluegill and crappie with a severe case of lockjaw. This was no supprise as they were just comming off a cold front. The second day we found the gills and crappie enjoying the warming shallows and easily limited out for a couple days on the beautifull small lake.
We sort of got caught up in the action one day and didn't quit fishing till eye strain in the darkness forced us off at 10:00 pm. :)
Now for those of you that don't know, As well as being a great fishing companion, Schoe is beyond a great cook!!!! WOW. he kept the food comming, and it was great!!!:D The last evening we had a fish fry with Schoe fixing a huge mound of fillets, fried oysters, huge platter of fried taters & onions. It was a meal fit for a king!! We were joined by, and enjoyed the company of Schoe's local friends.
The youngest guest was a neat young gal, a good looking sparkle eyed gal with a quick sense of humor and level head to boot. She left me with lots of confidence in some of our up comming youth. Thank you Schoe, Mike

Mike, it seems that you have found out what a few of us have been lucky to find out, and that is Schoe is an all around wonderful person. Sounds like the two of you had a wonderful time, and the fishing sounds like it was great.

Gofish, we fished Spring lake and a smaller 95% private lake that has a small public walk in from the road. I am fortunate to know one of the three land owners that have the land around the lake and use his boat launch and dock.
Hopefully I get the pictures downloaded this evening and will put them on. Schoe

Joe, Spring Lake is right outside Springbrook and has some very large Bluegill. The cold front, rain, and high winds made it tough fishing so thats why we ended up at the other semi private lake and did fairly well.
The Motor Home thing is still on but they want to keep it a week so I either have to have someone follow me down or I will pull a car trailer so I can drive myself home. I will let you know when I do this a day or two ahead. Schoe

Mike, I thank you for the compliments you said in your trip story. It was a pleasure meeting you, and I hope that you come back in June with Schoe. I enjoyed our stories we shared, and the fish fry. Thank you to you and Schoe both for the wonderful meal. It was great to see everyone. Hope I will get to go fishing with you next time. Katie

I was afraid I had lost a camera full of pictures but my daughter Andrea came to the rescue again. Here's a couple of pics from a recent trip to Wis., one of Mike, "Illinoisgiller looking over part of a beautiful little private lake where we were fortunate enough to fish for a couple of days and the other of some fine chunky northern Wis. Bluegills
I really had a good time fishing with Mike as he is a very fine and knowledgeable fisherman. I am looking foreword to our next trip North hopefully in June.

Well, a week ago today Mike, "Illinoisgiller", and myself returned from the Hayward, Spooner area after a nine day fishing experience that I probably will never equal again. We fished several different lakes and had the good fortune again to hit the gills right smack dab on the spawning beds. The Bass were very accommodating along with a few Crappies.
Calamity one of my longtime friends went with us one day and got in on the fun on Spooner lake where we had the opportunity to see a Black Bear on a small island and then swim to the main shore. We were within 50 yards when Calamity first spotted him ad quickly moved to the other side where he was headed just in time to see him swim to the mainland. The Pan fishing was very good that day also and we caught a limit of Gills and Red Ears combined
There are several local family's that we have had the pleasure to meet and become good friends with over the years that we enjoy having over for a cookout at least once while we are there. We had roast Turtle and deep fried Bluegill fillets along with Channel Catfish Fillets we brought with us. I think everyone enjoyed the meal as the platters of meat and other foods soon disappeared.
My partner Mike is a joy to have along and is without a doubt the fastest person I ever saw filleting Pan fish with an electric knife. I fancy myself fairly good at this with a Rapala knife but Mike was going through them three to my one.
There has been talk of possibly going back sometime in July which I will be looking foreword to .
Below is a couple pictures of Mike and one of Calamity on Spooner lake. There will be more of this trip posted in the Gallery. Schoe
