My name is Aaron and I'm from western Washington. I'm real blessed with all the fishing this area has to offer. I was born and raised here. Almost every day I'm on the river salmon fishing or steelhead fishing. My wife and I live right on the Columbia with are 2 year old. Now I'm trying to get my daughter use to the water. No problems so far, she loves it. Last week my Buddie Mark and I drove to the wind river 25 mi east of us. The first day I caught a 16 pound king Chinook on a Mag wart (Pink) the next day we went back up and he out did me with a lbs springer (king Chinook). also on a pink mag wart. The sturgeon fishing is picking up real good as is the American shad fishing the shad go over Bonneville dam in thick numbers the count is up to 40,000 a day and it no were close to it's peak.

I'll tell more later and try to answer all replies.
Thank you, Aaron

Its good to hear from someone out that way i used to live in cal. Santa cruz/ watsonville area.i have fished from the pajaro river to the rouge river in oregon my parents live in cave jct. Oregon. Ive also have fished around the williamett river that is south of crater lake. Love that area up there.now talk about some fishing ,its still one of a few places left in this country were you can still catch native trout. And there not small trout!!!! If you get a chance to fish inland try these places,im sure you wont be disappointed;upper klamath lake, agency lake, williamett, and spring creek. These places are north of klamath falls on 97,there is a town called chiloquin somebody there can tell you how to get to these places. These waters are on the modoc indian reservtion.if you get the chance look up a guy by the name of daryl ortis in the town of chiloquin. He lives on the river.he might show you around. Tell ed haskin sent you.

I'd like to say steelhead, but I'm not that refined. lol, Salmon are just easier for me, and I like catching big fish. Gotta go with Salmon on a Fly Rod as my favorite.

Aaron, I hear you I was stationed at Ft. Lewis and lived in Lacey, WA from April of 2004 to November of 2006. The fishing opportunities are fantastic up there. If you like steelhead the Kalama river has runs of them all year long. Also the Kalama is fantastic for Kings in the spring and summer. I also like the Skoomchuck for Steelhead.
My wife and I are planning a trip in June of next year, to hit up the Kalama River springer run.
If you ever go to the Kalama, take salmon eggs and a bobber, it's a very deadly technique on that river, also works well on the Nisqualli in areas where you and use a bobber.
It's hard to say, they are both great and usually when one run is over the other is starting up, can you say both lol.
