I and Mrs. Giller went to a small, heavily used lake that I can't mention the name of and got a nice mess of gills. I figured they would be deep from the terror of a holiday weekend. I worked a grizz jig 8' deep along the bottom slowly ,and picked up two nice ones. With action a little slow, I let Mrs. Giller work the bank where she is comfortable, and I got out the float tube and went searching. I found them at the edge of a sand hump in 2' of water. I was using a 6' Micro-Lite rod but when I found the first shallow gill, I switched to a 8 1/2' Micro-Lite.Then it was "game on" What a neat experiance!!! I'm supprised there isn't a law against having that much fun. :p
We kept 20 gills for 2 1/2 lbs of tasty fillets.
Oh, while inching along the bottom I latched on to a rod with a Zebco 202 reel. Looked like it had been decorating the bottom for a looong time. I would sure like to know the story behind that one. lol I left it leaning against a tree for someone to "find".. Mike

sounds like a great day fishing, sometimes when i dont have any green for tackle i just walk around the neighbourhood lake and will find a random assortment of sinkers/bobbers etc.

Glad to hear somebody is trying to do something about those ole trash fish :) About that reel you found.... I call 'em "treasures" I fished the local city lake about a month ago and this is what I found... It's almost as much fun as fishing !

I heard he is looking for a 202. Unless I got the wrong picture, his chances of landing one of your "HAWGS" on a Zebco 202 rate right up there with my chance of landing the same one on a fly rod. BUT, this old fella has learned not to under estimate anyone.
Hey- Story time- I attended a seminar at a local fishing show. I don't recall the name of the presenter, but he was supposed to dwell on Walleye and river cats. He told a story about a record Waleye. He and a buddy went to a known early waleye spot . While they were working the proper locations for the larger fish, a fella stopped by with a zebco outfit and real heavy line. They didn't pay him much attention because he was fishing in the wrong place. All of a sudden they seen him jerking on the pole ,reeling like crazy, and yelling- "I got a biggun" They thought he had a carp and it was giving him a tussle for sure. Then the gears gave out on the little zebco. He couldn't reel it anymore, and the line was locked up, so he started slowly backing up. He ran out of bank and backed up over a high ridge and out on a field. These guys ran over and netted it for him. It was a WEIGHT RECORD WALEYE!!!! If colbyjack wants a Zebco 202 there just may be a new record on the horizon. I take him as a getter done guy. :D WOW! that was a long one, Mike

Soupy, I don't think the Waleye story was any better, but a bunch windier. lol BUT, but ,but the bluegill trash fish ???? AW, cummon now, put a fried gill fillet on my forehead and my tongue will beat me to death trying to get to it. :p
When I and the grandsons are out and about, we've been known to go on the bobber hunt. You got some pricey ones in that batch. :D Mike

I have not had much luck crappie fishing lately, so I decided to hit a farm pond for bluegill. I only caught ten, but all of the gills ran from 8 to 9 inches. My wife fried them up for supper tondight.

Is that what is known as a Copper Nosed Bluegill?
"Out behind the house" at that. Some people just plain got it made. :p
T Bartels- Well lad, you wanted to know what we have found on fish trips. I and my wife were fishing at what they call "the wall" out on St. Freoli Island on the Miss. at Prairie Du Chien, Wisc. I found a tacklebox open and half full of water. There was a letter in it that had a girls name on it .
We stopped at a local quick stop and asked the gal there if she knew her. She said sure ,but why are you asking. lol I told her the story, and she called her . The gal was tickled to hear it was found. I just left it as we were in a hurry.
"Found" by way of a snag in a clear lake an old Zebco 202 that had been there so ling it had barnicles on it . Left it at the dock.
Have found many in ground pole holders that people had left .All were used till I forgetand leave it for the next lucky fisherman.
On a fishing trip to Canada, I found a couple younger ladies, but the wife made me throw them back. :D :D Mike

 I and the wife slipped out to the local canal this morning for some bluegill. I wasn't all that excited about the outcome as the barometer was at a high of 30.07 . The bite was light and the gills smallish as usual in the canal. Was tough to find fishing spots with the canal grown in so much .We did manage to get 63 worth cleaning, and threw more than that back. :)
Was nice to get out early enough to miss the heat and close enough to keep the fuel cost down. I hope all have a nice weekend. Mike
