Once upon a time (06/10/06) at 5 this AM. As you can see I made it to Lake Geiger in Western KY. It's about 8 miles from my house, back out in the river bottoms, way back ( which means it's fed at least twice a year by the backwaters of the Ohio River).
The site was beautiful ! Sun light was just trying to break over the hills, the Bullfrogs were calling me and the fish were rolling like HOGS/Hawgs..

I finally got the boat (12 Jon) in the lake. trolling motor just a puuuurin'. Baited up with some big "o" flattail red worms ( that I had dug, no store bought stuff for me ) 1/0 wire Eagle Claw Crappie hook ( you know, them pretty little gold ones) with one of them BB split Shot sinkers ,that won't hold my 100 lb test line down,so I had to use my Johnson Spinning Reel/w Johnson Medium Weight 5' 6" Rod (remember this brand name) with 12 lb line on it that looks like sewing thread to me.One of them pretty yellow and white bobbers. I chucked it to one of them Cypress Trees by the bank , where them "BIG" gills were playing and I waited.

While I was waiting ... I decided to soak up some of "God's Creations". Man this is one beautiful place.. Them "BIG'UNS" are rolling everywhere. I waited s'more............................................ ..............................................
.................................................. ................................................
After about 45 minutes and nary that first bite, I decided to try my luck with some of them rubber bait things, you Panheads know what I'm talking about. I looked around in this big o bait box I carry.. sometimes, that's got all my "PLASTIC" stuff in it and found one of them "Broken Back Minnows" , so, I put er on My Johnson Reel w/ Johnson m/h Rod ('member this brand name). I chucked that B/B Minnow up to one of them Big Cypress Trees and "BANG !

Bang again ! Something has hit that B/B Minnow !!!! What the HEY ! It's a big-o-catfish (5lbs) on "Plastic Minnow" !!!!!! Dang ! My day just got better.. I took him off and then I chucked that minnow back at that Cypress Tree and "BANG" again, it's another catfish (1 1/2lb) I just don't get it???? Catfish on "Plastic" , they must starved....And then it started, back under that big tree and "BANG" A nice size Large Mouth Bass... Now I know, I'm in HAWG HEAVEN (no pun intended to one of our members) After about 15 minutes of this , it started to slow down a little,so I decided to change baits. I found me one of them TWRILLY Things.. The one that has the lead head and two tails ! I chucked it out to a big-o-tree and Dang if I didn't catch another one on that thing... After about 6 or 7 of these bass....... I heard something behind me...It sounded like a big BULL wading out into the water but, there ain't no cows in this place. I looked around and found a BIG ONE !!!!!!! Bigest dang fish I ever saw working the banks behind me... I'm gonna make it to the record books with this one ! So I slipped over to him (shhhhh) I'm sneakin' up on him....I throwed that rubber twrilly thing at him... Real quit, I let 'er sink, I lit me a smoke.... and then it happened ,,... my line started to move and I wasn't doing it ! He HAD IT ! He's got it in his mouth.... Ohoh......OH SH*T He's running ! Set the hook fool ! (I said to myself)

You guys know I'm a catfisherman... You know I'm use to catchin' big fish......and you know I'M NOT USE TO USING LIGHT TACKLE !

He was runnin',and you know what you're s'ppose to do now.......and I did......I SET THE HOOK ! CRACK ! BANG ! ZIP ! Ohhhhhhhhhh SH*T ! Don't ever let a Big GAME HUNTER HUNT RABBITS !!!!!! It just don't work ! I set down on him and he just didn't care ! That "NEW" Johnson Reel w/Johnson rod went to hell in a hand bag... That Twrilly Thingy came by me soooo fast, I thought somebody has taken a shot at me with a gun.. I didn't realize that the rod (Johnson) had broke, I didn't realize that the reel (Johnson) had lost it's guts. The only thing I realized was that ,that little yellow Twrilly Thingy just came by me like a bullit...And then I saw him ( the fish) smilin' at me from afar...THEN, I SAW IT !!!!! BLOOD ! AGhhhhhhhhhhhhh... It's mine! Ouch, ouch, ouch ! My finger caught everything... The Twrilly Thingy, the end of that rod (Johnson) Blood was everywheres and it was mine ! The rod (Johnson) had stuck up in my finger like somebody had shot me with an arrow. >>>>..........I QUIT....... I can't do nuttin' right ! Nuttin' goes my way.... I'm gonna sell everything I got. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I have owned about two doz of these Reels (Johnson) and Rods (Johnson) But, I'll never own another... These things are made in CHINA now-a-days and I didn't realize that .......until now.
Well, the fish is gone, the rod (Johnson) is broke, the reel (Johnson) has been gutted and MY FINGER HURTS like h**l...

As for the Johnson & Johnson (bandaids) that goes back to what Kirk was talking about in one of his threads "Safety First" I didn't have a first aid kit nowheres ( my eyeglasses are s'ppose to be safety lens) and as for the Other Johnson... I don't have the money for the postage to send this s**t back to China.
And now for the fish ! What I saw of it (while in was divin' for the bottom of the boat) it look like a MONSTER Large Mouth Bass ( about 50 lbs, well maybe 15 lbs but, it looked like 50 lbs... Just saw the belly and part of the tail....After I go thru Bass Pro catalog and find me another heavier lite tackle outfit and I get my nerves back..... I'm going hunting !!!!!!

I see that that Ray is an "EMT" maybe I should fish with him?????
I do need some suggestions on which "REEL" I need to buy for Bass fishing. I like a good 5'6" or 6' Rod.. But, I've used Johnson Spinning reels for so long I really don't know what else is out there... I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER JOHNSON !

I'll have to check out that salt striker reel ?? I am a "Spinning Reel" type man.. I have several of the Shakespear "Bail" type spinning reels and some Zebco "Bail" type reels but, I prefer the enclosed type spinners. I do have 4 or 5 Garcia reels I like to use for lite fishing in the creeks and ponds... For everything else I use PENN that's the only way to go after the "big'uns"
