Went fishing with the wife today, and with 2 24 pack tubs of Canadian night crawlers and a partial tub, I reeled in 37 fish, and she reeled in 21. Needless to say, we didnt waste any worms. Unfortunatly, the pond is stocked with Bluegill, Bass and Catfish...... It has hardly been fished in many years, covers 2.5 acres, and it seem slike Bluegill have overtaken the pond. All but maybe 9 of our fish were bluegill. Though, the biggest one I caught, I held it on the palm of my hand, and it extended 1" one my arm past the end of my palm, which measures 8.5". Pretty big I thought. I forgot my camera or I would have gotten pictures.

I havent fished for catfish there yet, but I will. I would have caught more, but the wife made me quite using worms so she would have a chance to catch some :)

mustard_madman, Sounds like a neat outing on a nice pond. Those are nice gills and look forward to a few pictures if you get the chance.
Usually. removing a few from a pond that size is good for the pond and even better for the yummy fillets.
Welcome to the WIF family and hope to hear from you about your fishing experiances. Mike

Actually, her pond is about 25 miles east of Columbia, so it's even closer. But I intend on fishing the pond alot.

Here are some shots

Right now I am the only person that fishes at it. It's kinda nice. I am going to fix up the smaller dock some. It's old. The pond comes out being very close to 2.5 acres when it's full right now we are about 5 inches low on precipitation this year, and the lake is about 3 feet low right now, which sucks.

Nice looking fishing hole....Wish I were there to help you "fix" it up...I could bring some big Blues and Flatheads to clean out the smaller stuff that's in it. :) Soupy

That is a nice looking pond.!!! I can just see my float tube out in the center (with me in it of course), and the fly rod loaded with top water spiders.
If you see the water vibrating, you'll know the gills have picked up on my thoughts and are trembling at the thought of such a senerio.
I feel your pain with the low water in the pond. We are in the same condition in this part of the country. I fish some in southeast Ia. and it is the same there. I think Tue is the full moon and this may be the last spawning moon of the summer. There should be a few spawning now if you know where the beds are.
If you even THINK there may be any kids going to the lake , rope off the dock till it is fixed. We need to take care of our future fishers.:) lol Mike

Thanks guys.

I don't see any kids going there, and I don't have any kids myself. Though, I told my brother we need to go out there to fish soon, and he wanted to bring my neices with him. The docks are still solid, but the boards on top are bowing out, they need to be nailed back down. Nothing a little bit of time and some nails cant handle. :)

That and I need to clean up the banks. The only way to get around are the deer trails.

Now I have a 7 month old daughter..... so maybe the summer of 09 I will get her fishing there........ If my mom doesn't sell her house!

The bruhaha of my daughter's birth kept me away from fishing this year......

Keith, that question made me laugh......
(so you know there is a story coming..... :icon_cool:)
My LAST ex-wife and I went bream fishing one sunny afternoon, and she proceded to catch about 30 hand sized fish (I couldn't catch because she was afraid of crickets and I was baiting her hook.......... obviously this was early in the relationship :confused0024:)
When we got home, I got the cleaning equipment out, she proceded in the houose and said something to the effect of "let me know when you get the fish cleaned and the mess cleaned up!" :evilgrin0031:

I informend her rather politely that "she caught, she got to help clean"! She went inside, locked the door and looked oput through the window at me and again stated that she WAS NOT cleaning fish! Being the true southern boy that I am, I got the key out of my pocket, unlocked the door and proceded in the house with the bucket of fish. She took off running to the bedroom and jumped into the middle of the bed, folded her arms and said again " I told you I am not going to clean those fish and get those stinking things away from my bed."
Well about that time the redneck took over, I proceded to dump the bucket of fish in the middle of the bed and went outside to the shop.
A few minutes later she came out to the shop with the bucket of fish and asked me if I would teach her how to clean fish, which I did.
It did cost me a new mattress, but she was the best fish cleaner I ever seen. :icon_biggrin:
(did I mention she was my last ex-wife)

My current one splits wood, runs a chainsaw, cleans fish and game, shoots as well or better than I do, and works 2 jobs. Just goes to show you need to ask the important questions before you get hitched.....

Links are long gone..... I will get new ones this year....

Tee... good story!

My wife doesn't eat or clean fish... she just enjoys going. She doesn't handle the bait either, she uses pliers to bait her own hook....... weird :)

Sounds like you have a nice honey hole there. It's great when you have a good population of gills and can take some for the table. MMMMM
