Ive been reading these pages for about a month now and decided it was finally time to jump in and get my feet wet ..
What im needing is some info , about some cheese bait , there was a post here a while back that said something about Junnies Shad Bait , well i went out and bought some , paid about $13.00 for a tub of it and went down to the river , we caught over 30 fish in two hours and not one of them weighed in at over 1lb , you coundnt even call em fiddlers..
Now the question is , Is are these cheese dip baits only made for minnows or what ?? Just curious down here in KY:mad:

John, I personally haven't caught a lot of Cats on the dip baits and like you , most were small to eating size fiddlers. On occasion there will be a nice 2 to 3 lb. fish. Sonny's, Bowker's, and Doc's seem to be the most popular dip bait around the area where I live here in Ill.
Don't give up on the dip baits, but have other back up baits to try. As in my experiences what they liked last year or last week isn't what they want today so I try to have a good variety like, Worms, Chicken Livers, Shad, Leeches, and what ever I can muster up
I hope this helps some and don't give up, the bigger ones are out there. Schoe

my experience has been stinkbaits are good for numbers not size .theres exceptions and ive always got some bee jays in the boat but for bigger ones i count on cutbait(fresh!) know for a fact they love cut bluegill at ky lake.lol

My advise would be to check at the local bait & tackle store and talk to the old timer's. Find out what's working for them. Also if you know of anybody that runs trotlines on a regular basis, find out what they are baiting their lines with and find out what bait's they are most successful with. Good luck and hope ya'll catch lot's of fish....Ray

I've found that Dip baits work great for ponds and lakes. Not only for numbers, but occasionaly for size to. Last year I caught a 5lb channel on Junnie's Wicked Sticky in 3 foot of water in a strip mine pond here in IL. I've never tried it in a river, but as the saying goes, big bait=big fish, so I would try everything, and see what works the best for the size of fish you are looking for, and stick with that bait.

Hey John,
From what my experiance has been is when I start catching a lot of dinks in a spot,I move. The fish are biting well but with just shorts hitting the bait,it tells me that the larger fish are'nt in the area.Sometimes you only have to move a hundred yards or so,and you will find a larger class of fish. The larger fish drive away the dinks when they are around. You may have had better luck by just going around the next bend.If the small cats are feeding, the large ones are doing the same.
Next time you get a good bite on,but they are runts, try another area in the system. You just might be plesantly surprised.
I use dip bait for eaters to 3#.Anything larger and I go to cut or whole live bait.
Hope that this may be of some help to you.
