Hey what's up y'all? Not a whole lot here, just joined the site and like what I see. I'm an avid fishing freak, 26 years old, live in Ottawa Lake, MI, which is in SE Michigan along the Ohio-Michigan border, a couple miles from Toledo, OH. Also, I'm about an hour south of Detroit Rock City, and about a 20-25 minute drive west of the western shorelines of Lake Erie. Since I don't have a boat, I mainly shorefish from docks and peirs. I don't really have a species of choice, as in I don't target one specific fish. I love the fight that carp and sheephead bring, but if I do target fish they aren't one of those I do shoot for. I mainly go for white bass, perch, bluegills, sunfish, bullhead, catfish, northerns (unsuccessfully), smallmouth and largemouth bass, walleyes (unsuccessfully), and crappie, just to name a few. I try and get out a couple times a week at least, if not more, sometimes less depending on the weather conditions. I can't wait to dive into reading up some of y'alls tips, techniques, stories, etc. I'd like to help out with anything if possible, like helping answering questions if I can, etc. I also moderate a fishing Yahoo group, which I have in my profile. If you want to check it out, that'll be cool, if not that's cool too. I really don't like to pimp my group though to be honest, don't want to rub anybody the wrong way since I'm new to this site. Hope to get to talking to y'all soon.

Cool Annie, I mainly fish either this state park in Monroe, MI, or a couple spots along Lake Erie, one in Monroe and another in Luna Pier, MI. Once in a while I hit the rivers in the area. Planning on doing some river fishing soon when the steelers start rockin' and rollin' ;)

Welcome aboard Rockin, I was in your neck of the woods a few weeks ago. Some friends and I chartered a boat out of Port Clinton for walley and perch fishing. Had a good time but the charter captain was something of a dick.

I guess I should've come back to this thread sooner, but better late then never. Schoe, I never did get to those steelies in the fall like I was hoping. Ended up having some funky weather, and when the weather was right I was mostly going for some lunker perch and bluegills. Did have some fun with a couple carp and some bullhead, but was mostly after the perch and bluegills then.
Little_fiddler, don't get me started on charter captains. I know not all are dicks like the one you mention, but have met my fair share of arragant ones that thought they were above the shorefisherman, like myself.

I know several guy who charter Erie for perch and love the trip!
Not cheep but they get a group for a party boat to cut cost and have a ball! Might be an idea for a bunch of us!

Well, from what people tell me from their experiences on charter boats, they get their money's worth as compared to buying the fish at grocery stores. I couldn't see myself ever going through a charter, but that's just me. That being said, that has nothing to do with the charter captains, just don't have the money to go on a charter for one, and also catch plenty of fish at my fishing holes. Plus it doesn't help that some charter captains are pains in the butt.

Hey Maurice, good to hear from you! How has the fishing been up your way? I'm looking forward to the up-coming Bristol Senior Citizen's Flathead Tournament in April. My good buddy Mike Fowler from Arkansas is going to try to make it down to fish with me. I already know where I'm going to fish. Let's put it this way, if I want a cup of coffee, I won't have too far to go. It will be on the Chipola River, at the same place (or close to) the same place Donnie and I fished last April....Ray
