Joe is probably right about it being blue gill even if it is a bass he will
blow it right back out, even if they swallowed it,thats not near as bad
as having to leave a hook in one. Kirk

Add a rattle or glass bead in between your weight and hook to make a little noise and redirect the strike towards the front of your worm if you are getting short stroked.

Bammabass- I read an interesting article based on your experiance. The story was about how to find big bluegill . Now on a pond I would imagine that you would know where to find the larger gills if you wish to .This story refered to finding big gills on strange water.
One efective way was to talk with the bass fishermen. Find out where they have problems with pesky gills nipping at the plastic worms. If that is out on the open water humps ,they could very well be the largest in the water. Carry a panfish rig with you when you are bass fishing. When you get those nippers, switch to the panfish rig. If you have no interest in those large gills, no problem, just call me.:p lol
Now realize that I seen this method in print so it has to be true.  I'd bet it works though.

illinoisegiller-when we go up there to fish i always have both polls in the boat with me. have a little ultra-light with about a 4.5ft rod that is sure nuff fun to catch them bream on. got some big bream in that pond right at 1lbs. and when we go up there it aint no problem to catch 150 bream in a day and thats with just 2 folks fishen. if there is about 6 folks fishen its more fish than anybody would want to think about cleanin, but some sure fine eaten.

I work with a couple guys who fish bass tournaments quite a bit. They were talking about catching a bass with a plastic worm hanging from it's butt.

For Bass fishing since you cant use live crawlers in a Tournament,I prefer
the 7 inch Culprit Worms in Purple or Black, and also Top Water Baits when
the time is right, sometimes you may have to adjust the lenght of the worm
when the Bass get pickey. Kirk

Hey you can always combine the best of both worlds and use a trick worm. Have not caught anything on one yet, but man do they look alive when you twitch one on the surface.
