Riverrunner88,
I know that back in my bassin days, during the dog days,I used to use football jigs with a shiner tipped on the hook.Small short hops with a pause about every five.Dark colors worked best for me.
This method is'nt used much anymore and I ca'nt understand why.Used to outfish any other method at that time of the year when the temps were close to triple digits.
Give it a try.

my favorite search bait for summers the down deep rattlin fat rap. on a long cast on 14lb test itll run 12 ft and dig hard.look for main lake points and better yet if you can find a point on the edge of a flat. often youll find schools of a certain size fish in an area with the crank suspended off the structure, when you start bumpin bottom pause every so often.after ya find em try a carolina rig with a floatin fry or lizard. another trick i use is runnin steep banks with a bass pro flippin tube with no wieght(texposed) they still relate to the shallow wood just suspend out deeper.smoke color seems best around here.throw towards the cover and work it back like a fluke only with real long pauses. ill work mine to 10 ft deep at times but takes so long drives me nuts. watch your line close cause often youll never feel em,caught some of my biggest bass this way in summer and winter
