Hi, I'm going on a camping trip over labor day weekend and there is a lake where we r going and the last time we were there my friends and i caught a few crappies and that we didnt think we would catch so we really werent set up for them....i was just wondering if anyone on here had any good tips or any lure choices?? the lake is about 6 acres and is fairly shallow, and along the edge there is quite a bit of grass and moss. thanks for the help!!:)

I would use slip bobbers with small tube jigs
on a lake that small you should be able to cover most of it cast and retrieve
the tube jigs at various depths an various speeds, once you find the crappie
then you might want to switch to small (crappie) minnows
Also in a shallow lake like that, in this heat they may be as deep as they
can get during the day time and coming up on weed edges or any structure
(down trees, brush which might be visible would be great place to look!)
as sun sets down
I catch some of my very best crappie at nite this time of year

Little spinners should work real good, main thing would be to cover the water and find them
I like the slip bobbers cuz they let you vary depth as well as work well onto the weed edges you can kinda control the line you want to use

I have never used crankbaits for them, butI would imagine they will take
them , am not a "good" crankbait fisherman, just have never really used them
except the old Lazy Ikes I got from my grandpa

Make sure to look for visible structure an work round the weed edges
if they are there I bet you will find them

i use little crankbaits a lot. 1 1/2 " shallow and deep normans and 2 to 3 inch minnows (rapala) you can get the minnows deeper using a split shot 18 inches ahead of the bait. if its really weedy try to find well defined weed edges with deep water close by.weed points and cuts are good too. oh yeah 2 to 3 inch sassy shads should work too.

The deadliest thing I found for crappies is a yellow and white mini jig with a gold spinner. It gets em every time! The crappies here were hangin around 12-14 FOW last week.

Where are you fishing over labor day?

thanks for the ideas everyone!!! and crappiegirl-it is just a small lake at a campground called timber lake?? my friends and i fished it A LOT when we were there and caught A TON of small bluegills and sunfish, acouple small largemouths, and a few crappies but i wanted to target the crappies because the few that we caught we decent sized and i think if we try hard enough we can get quite a few!! but thanks again for the help and keep it comein!!:)
