A+ For Iowa State Lakes

Again, a short journey to one of Iowa's State Lakes made for a great day of fishing for myself and Mike and Loraine Serle.

Mike and I gave his Canoe a good work out and also proved again how great the "outriggers" work while Loraine preferred to fish from the bank.

We thought that the Gills may be on a minor spawn with the new moon last wed., but it didn't prove out that way, but according to the egg sacks in the Females the major spawn should be great toward the end of the month.

One curious thing was the Yellow Bass that we caught were the largest I've seen going 12 and 13 inches in length and hopefully the lake don't get over run with them like what has happened to a few other Iowa Lakes that had to be drained and re-stocked.

The Largemouth population seemed to be healthy as we must have boated and released a dozen while fishing for the Gills.

As always, whenever I have had the pleasure of fishing with the Giller ( and this time with his gracious wife Loraine) thoroughly enjoyed the day. My thanks to both of them.

Here's a few photos and the largest Gill of the day caught by Loraine. Schoe

Neat day!!

Yea, That was a great day on the water.
I was using 1/80 oz kiptail jigs tipped w/wax worm and Schoe used wild jumpin giant red worms. We both got our bait from Rexs Worm Ranch. You won't find him on the internet, just drive all the backroads around Kentucky Lake till you see the sign. lol
Schoe has been doing real well with the reds and seems to get more types of fish than I do with waxies. The jig/waxie combo sure worked well on a lot of gills, a couple red ear, two hard maples, and a big grape vine.
I'd enjoy getting down there again and target the crappie and Yellow Bass.
Because Yellow Bass are invasive, I've found they have lots of other names, most of them can't be listed on a family oriented site. However they do eat good, put up a great fight, and every one removed is a plus .
After the Kentucky Lake experiance and this great day trip, I'm starting out the season spoiled for sure. Thanks Schoe, Mike

Thumbs up Big business

Gofish, we could call it "The Pond Busters" and get uniforms just like the "Ghost Busters" lol lol
I need to avoid trouble and acknowledge that the wife caught her share from bank. She's got a couple of "secret spots" she does well from. Here are a few pictures. I need to work on better compisition for my pictures. Not sure what that means but sounded good. lol Mike

heath19 will become famous soon enough
The crappies are just starting to get underway on the spawn here in the last few days i have heard so i would imagine the crappies and bluegill would be on about the same time schedule out there in iowa so it shouldnt be long for the bluegills to be at it too. Im gonna try to get me some crappies this weekend and looks like you had a good day, nice job.
